ABWM of the Finger Lakes & Wayne County Share the
Bounty of the Region
While trying to come up with an idea to inspire others, AB Women of the Finger Lakes and Wayne County worked wonders. After a meeting with the director of Cameron Communities in Rochester NY, our women conceived a project. Looking around at our own bounty the Lord provides us, we decided it was time to share some of that bounty. After conversations with Cameron, we came up with “Nurturing God’s Garden, with Love.”
Over the course of the year, we collected donations to provide 5-year-old fruit trees that could be planted in and around the Cameron area and other community gardens. Fourteen fruit trees were able to be purchased and in June of 2023 they were delivered to Cameron for planting and distribution with the help of their arborist.
Fresh fruit, shade and contributing to much needed green space in the city is so needed to bring more of a community feel and look to areas in need. The trees at five-years-old actually bore fruit that very season. Now, it wasn’t a huge amount of fruit, but as they continued to grow and develop, it will provide fresh and free food to a neighbor in need.
We continue to look for new ideas and new groups to continue in our experience for our women and girls. This new source of ideas, is going to be a wonderful resource going forward as a place to share ideas, finding out what works, and what does not. Communicating ideas, hopes and bringing our sisterhood even closer with each new article.
